Mexico is located in the northern region of the American continent. With 9,656 km (6,000 mi) of coastline, Mexico lies between the Gulf of Mexico in the east and the Pacific Ocean in the west.  Land borders include the United States in the north, as well as Guatemala and Belize in the south.

The geography of Mexico can be divided into 3 major regions: northern, central, and southern Mexico. As a result of its closeness to the United States, the northern region of Mexico hosts industrial and business centres. Despite this, there is also a lot of natural beauty found in this part of the country.

Central Mexico is home to Mexico City, the country’s capital. It is characterized by the mountain ranges that run north to south. Southern Mexico is known for its seacoast and for jungles and marshes. Another element of Mexico’s geography is the Yucatán Peninsula. This peninsula also forms part of Belize and Guatemala, but for Mexico, it hosts the following states: Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo.
