Why consider a Brunei Vacation?

Brunei, a rainforest-covered country nestled on the northern coast of Borneo in South-East Asia, is a refreshing tourist destination offering a richly diverse natural and cultural heritage, a centuries-old majestic Royal heritage and an exciting contemporary side of magnificent accommodation, premium golf, first-class diving and modern and efficient infrastructure.

Sandwiched between the two States of Malaysian Borneo on the north coast of the island, this country is a tiny state with a small population, Brunei has one of the highest standards of living in the world thanks to sizeable deposits of oil and gas. It is a heavily forested state where visitors will encounter the grandeur of Islamic architecture and royal tradition. This country has a varied selection of attractions for the visitor on a Brunei tour.

Top cities and places to visit in Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan

The Islamic influence is fairly dominating. The country itself has been ruled by the same Sultanate monarchy for the last 600 years. In the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, the outstanding attraction is probably the reigning Sultan of Brunei’s lavish home, the Istana Nurul Iman Palace which sits on top of a hill overlooking the city. Another eye-catching building is the Sultan Omar Ali Saiffudien mosque, architecturally fascinating with its Mughal and Italian influences, all to be experienced on Brunei tours.

For museum buffs, the city houses a number of excellent museums including the Royal Regalia Museum highlighting the 600-year reign of Brunei Sultans and the many artifacts associated with them. In contrast, check out the Kampong Ayer Water Village with its quaint charm. Shopping in Brunei ranges from traditional markets to boutique stores where merchandise can be bought everywhere at competitive prices.

Ulu Temburong National Park

In terms of nature conservation, one of the best places to visit in Brunei is Ulu Temburong National Park. The national park is an unspoiled nature heritage that is quite diverse. Like the rainforests, it is hard to spot the abundant wildlife within the park. There is an extensive network of wooden boardwalks and it has been said that visitors could theoretically walk around for days on the boardwalks without their feet ever touching the ground. There is also a popular canopy walkway that is 50 m from the forest floor and is level with the highest trees. Up there, visitors truly gain an appreciation for the flora around them and there is the possibility of spotting tree snakes that cannot be seen from the ground.

Beaches and Rainforest Tours

The country consists of 70% unspoiled rainforests. Brunei’s natural beauty includes pristine forests with wonderful flora and fauna, coral reefs and mango-covered lagoons, plus a number of attractive nature reserves. There is a choice of excellent sun-drenched beaches along the full length of the coastline. Two attractions here are scuba diving and the ability to view a number of outstanding shipwrecks. The latter can be enjoyed by photography enthusiasts on a Brunei vacation.
