Jordan Weather
The weather in Jordan is greatly affected by altitude; low areas like the Jordan Valley and the Gulf of Aqaba experience great heat and humidity, while higher central and northern areas can get quite cold in the winter.
The climate of Jordan is characterized by long, hot summers and short, cool winters, yet the country enjoys four seasons. Spring is from March to May and is generally considered a good time to visit as temperatures can be warm. Summer is from June to August with some areas experiencing temperatures over 40˚C (104.4˚F). August is the hottest month, averaging temperatures between 20-35˚C (68-95˚F). Autumn is from September to October and is also considered one of the better times to visit as temperatures are not that extreme. Finally, winter is from November to February and these months can be quite cold with snow sometimes falling in Amman and Petra. January is the coldest month with temperatures averaging between 5-10˚C (41-50˚F).
The rainy season in Jordan is from November to March/April, with approximately 70% of the annual average rainfall occurring during those months. There is rarely ever any rain in June-August.
